About Valentine Interior Design
I’m Priscilla Valentine, and I run an interior design company that focuses on residential and small commercial interior design requirements. My business also specializes in kitchen and bathroom design to help people improve the functionality of their homes.
The company is three years old today, and I am amazed by the extent to which it has grown. Initially, I started my business in a moment of career frustration. Before launching my own design firm, I worked for some fantastic, creative interior designers. However, as I faced family and personal challenges, and as the long commute to work became a real issue, I grew frustrated. This led me to take a lesson from my self-employed bosses, and without thinking twice about savings, I jumped into self-employment.
I’m glad I decided to work on my own as my business has really taken off and given me so much flexibility. Moreover, I am much happier today than I was three years ago. That said, my company is constantly evolving as the economy, and my clients’ needs keep changing. For example, I was transitioning to digital presentations when COVID-19 hit, and this caused me to accelerate the transition. Similarly, I am continually learning from my clients. Many of them have sophisticated tastes and know exactly what they want. To satisfy their needs, I educate myself on current and classic trends at all price points.
I primarily work in Tarrant and Denton counties in Texas, and am capable of providing my services to neighboring counties as well. To enable my clients to get to know me and my team and for me to understand their requirements, I conduct consultations by appointment at the clients’ place or remotely by Zoom or FaceTime. We hold meetings from Monday through Saturday with day and evening appointments at the client’s convenience.
For interior design, the seasonal peaks in business have generally been during the spring and summer months. But recently, we’ve been receiving a steady flow of business as most homeowners are working from home and see how much love their properties need!
The Valentine Interior Design Difference
An indication of a skilled interior designer is an extensive education in the field and active experience in a design organization, like ASID (American Society of Interior Designers). It shows that they are committed to the industry and constantly educating themselves. As an interior designer, I meet and exceed these requirements. With my business and industry continuously evolving, I need to keep educating myself to stay ahead of the curve. Simultaneously, I have vast experience in my field as I’ve worked with some of the best interior designers around before launching my own business.
When working on a project for my clients, my main goal is to give their space the love it deserves. That means developing the style that they desire and not my personal preferences. Similarly, I charge my clients by the size of the space I’m working on, not by the hour. This pricing model helps my clients save a great deal of money as it gives them the exact cost of designing or redesigning their interiors.
Additionally, I work with all budgets, from a one-thousand-dollar nursery to a kitchen and bath remodel worth hundreds-of-thousands of dollars. I aim to make interior design customizable and affordable to my clients by being flexible with my services and prices. At the same time, I make it a point to go the extra mile for my clients and deliver precisely what they desire, as I love to hear them say, “You really listened to my needs.” After all, it is their project, and they are paying me to bring their ideas to life.
To deliver on my clients’ demands, besides being a good listener, I am a process-driven person who lives by a schedule. I make a task list for each project and schedule it in. Being creative requires structure to be successful, and I introduce structure through efficient planning and timelines.
I also love working with clients who know what they want, as their requirements push me to think outside the box. Working in this creative industry with diverse clients is gratifying work and I hope to keep doing it for as long as I live.
I absolutely love testing my creativity and inspiring others through my work, be it my clients and prospective interior designers. Apart from this, I firmly believe that as a business and an able individual, I must leave a space better than I found it. As a result, when working on a project, I make it a point to use recycled or environmentally conscious products. I even recycle supplies like paper and printer cartridges in my office. My company also supports local radio stations to enable them to keep doing the excellent work that they do to inspire and help others.
